Handmade bags - the story behind the original SuzziMaggs Bag design

In 2017 I was blessed to go on the trip that I have dreamed about for as long as I can remember. It was one of the most amazing times of my life. Firstly we flew to Uganda to spend time volunteering with our friends at 100% Hope, and then we went on to spend 5 weeks travelling through several countries in Europe. When people ask what was my favourite thing about the trip I can't give an answer because the whole time was incredible!

One of my desires before we left was to have the most convenient and comfortable travel bag. One that would contain all my important and necessary items safely and be comfortable to wear constantly. I decided to design and make the exact bag that I was looking for. When I thought I had a good design, I made it up and tried it out for a while. I was great, but a bit small. So I enlarged the design and made the bag again in an olive green wool blend fabric that someone once gave me.

Bag number 2 was exactly what I was looking for! It became my closest and most reliable travelling companion and never left my side. ( something my madly keen photographer husband did often! haha) Everything was right there, carefully tucked away in secure zipped pockets, one for passport, one for credit cards and still another for cash. It was large enough that I could keep several art supplies in it and yet small enough that I could wear it under my coat. Even now, after arriving home I am still using this bag as my everyday handbag.

I love my bag design so much that it has become the first item available in the SuzziMaggs range. It will be available in 3 sizes mainly, with the occasional special size made due to the nature of the fabrics involved.

There will be the Itty Bitty phone size with just enough room for phone, keys, card and cash

The Travel size which is perfect as an everyday bag with room for an Ipad

The Student size which will fit a laptop inside but is also a great size for a baby/nappy bag

Each bag is individual due to the fact that the materials are up-cycled and therefore there is a limited amount of each fabric.

I'm planning to add other items along the way such as hats, purses, wraps......... and whatever I am inspired to create.

Thank you for stopping by, have a wonderful day!
